The RN to MSN provides a streamlined route to a master’s in nursing that is allowing a much needed younger generation of nurses to enter advanced nursing roles as a large portion of nurses that hold these positions plan on retiring over the next ten years. Nurses who have been working on the floor for a number of years and find themselves not able to handle the strenuous requirements of the position any longer are seeking their MSN in hopes that they will be prepared to enter administrative roles or roles where the physical demand is less. The RN to MSN has become a popular option for these nurses as well.

An RN to MSN program is not a walk in the park. These programs are extremely focused and take about three years to complete. The baccalaureate education and clinical requirements are met prior to entering any master’s level course work and specialization track content. Some nurses feel that the three year commitment can be too demanding and opt to earn their BSN, which can also lead to positions with greater responsibility as well as prepare them for entry to master’s nursing programs later on. Learn about the RN to BSN programs in Texas.

Texas is experiencing a significant shortage of registered nurses and though there are plenty of applicants there are not enough faculty or clinical sites to train the number of nurses to meet the demand. What this means to nurses seeking an RN to MSN in Texas is that there will be opportunity in the field of nursing education. Many of the RN to MSN programs listed below do offer this concentration track. As the state of Texas explores new ways to meet the demand for registered nurses, there will have to be incentives for those that choose to enter nursing faculty roles, such as loan repayment. This is not to say that advanced practice, informatics and other concentrations won’t be in demand, because they are as well. Nurse practitioners in under served areas are also needed. Just not to the extent that nursing faculty is needed. With a job outlook like this, there hasn’t been a better time to start exploring RN to MSN options in Texas.
