CNA Training Programs in Texas

In order to become a certified nurse aide (CNA) in Texas you must first complete a state approved training program. In addition you must successfully pass a competency evaluation exam. Upon completion of your training and competency evaluation, you will receive a certificate, qualify to be placed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry, and be officially certified to work as a nurse aide in Texas.

Certified nurse assistants are also referred to as nurse aides, patient care technicians, hospital attendants, and home health aides just to name a few. As a CNA, you may work in nursing homes, long term care settings, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, or assisted living facilities. You will generally work under the supervision of an LVN or RN and your duties as a certified nurse aide may include, but not be limited to taking vital signs, answering call buttons, taking care of patient's personal hygiene, preparing meal trays, making beds, and reporting new health problems or issues to a supervisor.

CNA positions are often used as a gateway to other careers in health care. Many CNA's become licensed vocational nurses or registered nurses at a later date.
