APRN - Nurse Practitioner Programs in Connecticut
Nurse practitioners in Connecticut are required to complete a master's level degree program in nursing or a related field that is recognized by the nurse practitioner certifying bodies for certification as a nurse practitioner. Online and campus based nurse practitioner programs offered in Connecticut that meet this requirement can be found below.
The State of Connecticut also requires that Nurse Practitioners have 30 hours of pharmacology education to enter advanced practice. Most often a nurse practitioner master's program will incorporate pharmacology into the curriculum, but make sure to inquire with any program you are considering as to if this requirement will be met.
Nurse Practitioners and all other areas of the nursing field are regulated by the Connecticut Department of Public Health. In addition to the afore mentioned requirements, nurse practitioners in Connecticut must have a current Connecticut Registered Nurse License (also a requirement for most Nurse Practitioner programs) and have national certification as a nurse practitioner. National certifying organizations for nurse practitioners include the American Nurses' Association, The National Certification Corporation for the Obstetric, Gynecological and Neonatal Nursing Specialties, The National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Learn more about NP specializations and certification at these organization's websites.
