Nursing schools in North Carolina have been graduating nurses for more than a century. Recently North Carolina nursing programs have been struggling to keep up with the demand for well educated and highly skilled nurses. A limited number of nursing faculty at many North Carolina nursing schools has restricted how many new nursing students they can admit each year. North Carolina nursing programs turned away hundreds of well qualified applicants last year because they did not have the classroom space or the faculty to teach the large number of applicants.

A large number of the nursing schools in North Carolina turned away baccalaureate degree applicants because there was not enough nursing faculty. Many registered nurses across the country have made the decision to pursue a BSN in order to keep themselves marketable to hospitals and other health care agencies. Hospitals in North Carolina are advertising for nurses with baccalaureate degrees and having a hard time filling vacancies.
