Oklahoma Nurse Practitioner Programs

Nurse Practitioners in Oklahoma are referred to as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners or ARNP. According to the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act, a registered nurse must complete a master's or higher level educational program in an advanced practice nursing area. The nurse practitioner program must be accredited or hold candidacy status or hold preliminary approval status with the CCNE or NLNAC. The nurse practitioner programs offered in Oklahoma that meet these requirements are listed below.

In addition to the educational requirements, the Oklahoma Board of Nursing requires that ARNPs hold national certification in the specialty area they will be practicing. Following successful completion of a national certification, the Board of Nursing will evaluate the applications for certification to practice in the state of Oklahoma. The afore mentioned stipulations apply to all advanced practice nurses in Oklahoma including nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse midwives and certified registered nurse anesthetists.

Online nurse practitioner programs provide a flexible option for busy or rural based nurses that wish to advance up the nursing career ladder. Courses are completed online and every effort is made to arrange clinical sites in the students local region. Some programs require students to complete one or more focus sessions on campus during the course of the program. These sessions usually are only a few days in length. The online learning format has become a popular trend in nursing and the nurse practitioner online programs listed below hold either NLNAC or CCNE accreditation. Learn more about the benefits of an online nurse practitioner format by contacting these schools.

According to the Advance for Nurse Practitioners 2007 Salary Survey, a nurse practitioner in Oklahoma made an average annual salary of $83,511. Salary will vary significantly based on location, facility, specialty, experience and other factors, but this provides an idea of what might be possible.
