Licensed Practical Nurse Programs in NJ
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in New Jersey works closely with Registered Nurses and other health care providers to care for patients, help patient rehabilitate after an illness or injury and to prevent patient illness. The LPN scope of practice in New Jersey is in development and in most cases follows the nurse scope of practice act in New Jersey. LPNs most often work under the supervision of a registered nurse where the registered nurse follows the New Jersey Board of Nursing's Algorithm for Determining Scope of Practice and for Making Delegation Decisions when delegating duties to the LPN. LPNs are not allowed to delegate duties or responsibilities in the health care setting, though many find themselves doing so.
LPN programs in New Jersey can be completed in 1- 2 years and are helping to alleviate the strain of the nursing shortage in New Jersey. There are many areas of nursing where LPNs are in high demand, one of them being in home health. Home health is a great field for an LPN looking to have variety in their day and good pay, often traveling to various patient's homes to administer medications and related duties. Other areas with a high demand for LPN's services include physician offices and assisted living facilities.
Salaries for Licensed Practical Nurses in New Jersey vary with experience, location, employer and other factors. LPNs earn, based on recent data collected, $17 to $21 an hour in New Jersey with an average annual salary of $40,000.
