Nurse Practitioner (NP) Programs in Nevada

Nurse Practitioners in Nevada are referred to as Advanced Practitioners of Nursing or APN’s. In order to become certified as a nurse practitioner in Nevada, you must first complete a program designed specifically to prepare you to become an advanced practice nurse. Nurse practitioner is one of the most common APN specialties, but others that fall under this umbrella include clinical nurse specialist, nurse midwife, or nurse psychotherapist. Though not required, upon completion of your program, you should become nationally certified as an APN in your designated specialty. You may then apply for certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or other APN specialty in Nevada. (source: Nevada State Board of Nursing)

If you completed your program before 2005, a master’s degree is not required, however there are a number of other qualifications each of which can be found on the state board of nursing website at www.nursingboard.state.nv.us.

Since most states today require that new nurse practitioners have a master’s level education and you must have an MSN to sit for the national certification exam, most NP programs are designed as MSN programs with a nurse practitioner or other APN concentration. Additionally, if you already have an your master’s in nursing, there are several NP track post master’s certificate programs available.
