RN – BSN Completion Programs in Idaho

The BSN is an essential step for a registered nurse who wants to move up the nursing career ladder. The RN-BSN builds on the associate’s degree or diploma education as well as the clinical experience a registered nurse has gained. The BSN is designed to strengthens leadership skills, communication skills, theoretical and analytical writing and thinking skills and related nursing skills. Through the nursing education articulation model in Idaho registered nurses have the opportunity to transfer credits toward the BSN and shorten the length of RN to BSN program completion. Some online programs can be completed in as little as 12 months.

Registered nurses with a BSN in Idaho are becoming more common than those with an associate’s or diploma in nursing for the first time in history. The increasingly complex health care system, health care technology and patient presentations have increased the demand for nurses with higher education. The AACN has also stated that they feel the BSN should be the minimum education required for professional nursing practice. There is legislation in some states that, if passed, would require nurses hold a BSN to practice.

The Idaho Department of Labor Annual Occupational Wage Survey found that in 2007 registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree in nursing earned an average annual salary of $59,000. This was almost twice the average annual salary of all jobs in Idaho. The BSN degree will payoff in more than career advancement and salary. The BSN is also the necessary step for entry to master’s level programs for advanced practice or nurse educator career paths, positions where the state of Idaho is significantly lacking these nurses.
