Online DNP Programs
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN, 2005) has voted to move the current level of educational preparation for advanced nursing practice from the master's level to the doctoral level. This means that all advanced practice clinical nursing masters programs will be eliminated by 2015 with the standard for advanced practice becoming the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). The PhD in Nursing will remain the accepted degree for nurse researchers and faculty.
Many of the DNP and PhD programs are offered online and offer the same course content that a campus based program would offer. There a number of benefits to pursuing a PhD in Nursing or DNP online. Online learning provides students with flexibility, students have the opportunity to continue with their nursing career while completing their education and students will find that the interaction with other students and faculty via the internet is much more enhanced as compared to campus interaction.
