How to Become a Certified Medical Assistant- CMA

Steps to Become a Certified Medical Assistant

Medical Assisting is the fastest growing career in the health care industry. As a certified medical assistant you do the majority of clinical work that a registered nurse would do including rooming patients, taking patient histories, drawing blood, administering injections, x-rays, ekg, and more. This is a well paying job and only takes 6 months to a year to become a medical assistant. The higher paying jobs require medical assistants to have some work experience as well as be certified.

The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) provides simple steps to become a certified medical assistant.

1) Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited Medical Assistant school, such as Kaplan University's online medical assistant program. Click here to request free information from Kaplan University.

2) Take and pass the AAMA CMA Certification Exam. Learn more about the AAMA CMA Certification Exam.
