Nursing Master's Degree Programs in the State of Maine
Students enrolling in a master's degree program will need to have earned their baccalaureate degree in nursing prior to applying, unless the applicant is applying to an RN or ADN to MSN program. Other requirements such as the GRE, MAT or graduation from an NLN or CCNE baccalaureate program may also be required. It is important to inquire with the school you plan to attend as to what their specific requirements are.
Most registered nurses applying for MSN programs have been working as a registered nurse for more than a year and have a pretty good idea as to the area of specialization they want to focus on. Specializations include nurse practitioner, nurse anesthesia, education, administration, clinical nurse specialist, psychiatric practice, and many others.
Though specialization is a critical focus in the master's program, most will also offer general study in topics such as nursing research, health care ethics, nursing theory, public policy, leadership and management skills, and other areas of general health care studies. Online MSN or Nursing Master's Degree formats are frequently offered through some of the country's most well known nursing schools, including those in Maine. Precepts can often be arranged locally and most schools offer assistance. Inquire with the schools below to learn more about their programs and if they fit your needs.
