RN to BSN Completion Programs in CT

Earning a BSN has become an essential step for registered nurses desiring to move up the career ladder into management, advanced practice, education or graduate school. The goal of RN to BSN programs is to build on the student's prior experience and education to create a more well-rounded nurse, a nurse that understands the issues that are impacting health care and patient care and how to more effectively provide care in this environment.

The BSN has become the minimum educational requirement for professional nursing recognized by the American Nurses Association and the American Association of Colleges for Nursing. In fact, many magnet hospitals and learning institution hospitals require or prefer hiring of baccalaureate prepared registered nurses.

RN to BSN completion program courses are aimed at sharpening a nurses's decision making, critical thinking, communication, leadership and related skills. The Connecticut Articulation Model allows for transfer of course work and experience in many cases, so be sure to inquire with the programs you are researching. The RN to BSN usually takes around two years to complete, but with transfer credit can be completed in less time.

According to the Advance for Nurses 2007 Salary Survey, registered nurses in Connecticut with an ADN and those with a BSN made nearly the same. The BSN average annual salary salary of $59,715 was just about $1000 more than the ADN annual salary. Where a spike occurred was with nurses who held a master's degree of some type or those nurses with a master's of science in nursing. These MSN educated nurse earned an average annual salary of $76,250. The BSN is a necessary step for any registered nurse looking to earn a graduate level degree.
